Inspired by vintage patterns, antique heirlooms, and organic elements, mixed media artist Susan Thornbury creates rich layers of texture and pattern on wood canvas. Influenced by her background in graphic design, each piece begins with a solid structure and repetition while her process of deconstruction reveals a unique depth and character.

Susan recently moved back to her hometown of Atlanta with her husband, two daughters, and their feisty rat terrier, Bowie.

“There's a calm recognition of the beautiful world that surrounds us. At times, the natural world can appear to be chaotic, unorganized and even violent, but Susan's work is a reminder of the intricate patterns and deliberate designs that nature has laid out for us to enjoy and to learn from. She has truly tapped into that world and found a way through her unique process to present it to us in all of its wonder.”

“Susan's work evokes a sense of the mystic, a quality that is near-impossible to resist. The alchemy of her pieces lies in the juxtaposition of intricate detail and bold designs.”
